Description
Undeniably Rare 1872 Three Dollar, PR 64 PCGS
1872 $3 PR 64 PCGS. This coin was previously offered as lot 7203 in our Philadelphia 2000 Signature Sale, where it was cataloged as: "The proof 1872 three dollar gold piece has an original mintage of only 30 pieces. It is unlikely, however, that even half of these coins are extant today, a few of which are unfortunately impaired. In addition to being wholly original, this near-Gem is free of unduly bothersome post-production distractions. Both sides display a tantalizing cameo finish with deep, rich orange-gold patina. There is a single, well concealed toning spot on Liberty's headdress and a series of planchet flaws in the reverse field around the 3 in the denomination that should help establish the pedigree of this piece. An important coin with both rarity and aesthetic desirability on its side."Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28AC, PCGS# 8035, GSID# 8721)
