Amazing 1881 Three Dollar Gold
PR64 Deep Cameo
1881 $3 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. The 1881 three dollar
gold proof marks the beginning of elevated proof mintages for the
last decade of the denomination, though the stated mintage of 54
pieces pales in comparison to certain later figures. Few specimens
released then have contrast that can compare to that found on this
wonderful Choice piece. Gorgeous, sharply struck central devices
have no breaks in the frost, though the hollow of Liberty's neck
shows a polished area that is consistent with Mint practices of the
time. The yellow-gold fields are fantastically reflective, gleaming
even at arm's length. Though a few hairlines are visible when the
piece is tilted under a light source, the overall eye appeal is
