    Description

1883 Three Dollar, Sharply Struck PR62 Cameo

1883 $3 PR62 Cameo NGC. A total of 89 three dollar gold pieces were struck in proof format in 1883. Most were apparently saved, as NGC and PCGS have certified almost 90 specimens, a number of which are obviously resubmitted coins.

The mirrored fields of this PR62 Cameo representative highlight the motifs, especially when the coin is rotated under a light source. All of the design elements are sharply impressed. A few copper spots are visible near the rims of the yellow-gold surfaces. Substantially hairlined in the fields, yet pleasing at arm's length. Census: 1 in 62 Cameo, 29 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28AS, PCGS# 88047)

    Weight: 5.02 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
