    Description

Outstanding Gem Cameo Proof 1884 Three Dollar Gold

1884 $3 PR65 Cameo NGC. The 1884 was only the third of the three dollar gold proof issues to have a triple-digit mintage, and unlike the 1860 and 1861 issues, which were heavily melted, the 1884 experienced collector demand to justify its high production. As a result, it is one of the more available proof three dollar gold issues in most grades.
Gem specimens, however, remain elusive. This attractive coin, one that shows bold contrast between the fathomless honey-gold mirrors and the delicately frosted, solidly impressed devices, offers wonderful preservation. An impressive coin with no overt distractions. Census: 6 in 65 Cameo, 6 finer (2/08).(Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28AT, PCGS# 88048)

    Weight: 5.02 grams
