Description
Unsurpassable Proof 1886 Three Dollar Rarity
1886 $3 PR 66 PCGS. The last of four stellar proof three dollar gold pieces in the Crudginton Collection, this Gem is equally as impressive from the standpoint of technical quality. The moderately cameoed features are bathed in golden-rose color that deepens to orange hues in the reverse field. Sharply struck and radiant, both sides are free of even the most trivial surface blemish. Produced to the extent of only 142 pieces, the 1886 is, nonetheless, among the more readily available proofs in this series. The fact that a mere 40-45 coins are believed extant should confirm the awesome rarity of all proof three dollar gold issues. The desirability of this particular example is further enhanced by the paltry original mintage (1,000 pieces) of the business strike 1886. NGC and PCGS combined report six coins in PR 66 (resubmissions?), and there are none finer (11/00).From the Mike Crudginton Collection.
