1888 $3 PR58 PCGS. The mintage of proof three dollar gold coins was 291 pieces in 1888, extremely small in absolute terms, but still the largest proof total for the series. Examples are scarce-to-rare in all grades today, with about half the mintage surviving in recognizable proof format. The present coin has brightly reflective surfaces, with light greenish-gold color and sharply detailed devices. Population: 6 in 58, 87 finer (8/10).(Registry values: N2998)
