1888 JD-1 Three Dollar, PR63 Cameo
Popular Type Coin

1888 $3 JD-1, Low R.4, PR63 Cameo PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint produced just 291 proof three dollar pieces in 1888, which while a low mintage was the most prominent of the proof series. The issue has retained a remarkable survivorship to date, and a plethora of the coins can be found in Mint State. This piece displays attractive amber-gold luster with notes of richer color on the devices with deeply reflective fields. There are some minor marks with a pedigree mark on Liberty's cheek, but none of them are debilitating to the appeal of this example. The strike is pristine, showing remarkable sharpness within Liberty's portrait and along the wreath. The issue is scarcely finer and this will be an appreciable piece for proof type collectors. PCGS Population: 9 in 63 Cameo, 31 finer (4/26).
