Choice Cameo Proof
1874 Trade Dollar

1874 T$1 PR64 Cameo NGC. "Patched Letters Reverse," as are most extant proof 1874 Trade Dollars. After the first-year 1873, the 1874 is the rarest proof Trade Dollar produced through 1883. As with the preceding year, proofs of this type were not popular with collectors in 1874, and the survival of high grade examples was more a matter of chance than deliberate numismatic activity. This is a lovely near-Gem whose shimmering fields would probably warrant a higher grade were it not for a few faint hairlines. Both sides are toned in light golden hues on the devices. An attractively original and boldly cameoed example that boasts a needle-sharp strike. Census: 15 in 64 Cameo, 10 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N2998)
