First in the Proof-Only Series

1878 T$1 PR65 NGC. Deep ocean-blue, rose-red, and orange patina embraces this pinpoint-sharp Gem. The 1878 is the first in a series of proof-only Trade dollars that culminates in the virtually uncollectible 1884 and 1885 dates. The 1878 is a scarcer date, with only 900 pieces struck. Census: 35 in 65, 15 finer (2/11).(Registry values: N4719)
