Description

1878 Trade Dollar, PR66
Vivid Multicolor Toning

1878 T$1 PR66 PCGS. CAC. Business-strike coinage of Trade dollars was suspended at the Philadelphia Mint in 1878, but 900 proof examples were struck to satisfy collector demand. The issue enjoys a fairly high survival rate, but most examples seen are in the PR60-PR63 range. The 1878 is quite elusive in PR66 condition, and finer grades are prohibitively rare.

The coin offered here is a spectacular Premium Gem with sharply detailed design elements and deeply mirrored fields under vivid shades of gray, emerald-green, and cobalt-blue toning. No mentionable distractions are evident and eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 9 in 66, 1 finer (10/13).(Registry values: N4719)
