1881 Trade Dollar--Altered Surface--NGC. Proof. A small proof-only mintage of 960 Trade dollars was achieved in 1881, less than half the production of the previous year. The present coin features sharp striking details throughout, unusual for this date, but the brilliant surfaces show slight evidence of tampering.
