1883 Trade Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Final Collectible Proof-Only Issue
1883 T$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. The proof mintage slipped below
1,000 pieces in 1883, marking the "official" end of Trade dollar
proof sales to the public. Only tiny mintages of Trade dollar
proofs in 1884 and 1885 followed the series-ending 1883 proofs.
Relatively few 1883 Gem or finer proofs were preserved by
collectors. This Premium Gem is lightly toned in pale russet and
blue shades, with mirrored fields and sharply struck, smoothly
frosted devices. PCGS reports only three finer Cameo examples, plus
two more in PR66+ Cameo. Population: 16 in 66 (2 in 66+) Cameo, 3
