Description

1883 Trade Dollar, PR67 Cameo
Final Collectible Proof-Only Issue

1883 T$1 PR67 Cameo NGC. The Philadelphia Mint struck a proof-only mintage of 979 Trade dollars for collectors in 1883, down from the 1,097-piece mintage of the previous year. Apparently, the speculation in proof-only issues that had dominated the Trade dollar market since 1879 was beginning to subside. Although a few Trade dollars were struck in 1884 (10 examples known) and 1885 (five specimens traced), those issues are classic rarities in the series, making the 1883 the final date available to most collectors. This delightful Superb Gem proof displays sharply detailed, frosty design elements that contrast profoundly with the deeply mirrored fields. The virtually pristine surfaces add to the terrific eye appeal of this remarkable piece. This coin will be a welcome addition to the finest collection or Registry Set. Census: 14 in 67 Cameo (1 in 67 ), 1 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N7079)
