Description

1902 Proof Set NGC. A splendid and apparently original, five-piece proof set, all graded by NGC, and all PR 65-66 quality. Consisting of the following:
Cent PR 66 Red. Nicely reflective fields with orange-red and cherry-red color. A few flyspecks of carbon are noted on the obverse.
Nickel PR 66. Moderately reflective fields, the surfaces are covered with light gray and ice-blue toning.
Dime PR 66. Deeply reflective, mirrored fields. The obverse is colored a deep cobalt-blue, while the reverse is quite different with a mostly untoned center that is surrounded by rust colored patina with a dash of blue at the margin.
Quarter PR 65. Significant portions of the obverse have a deep rose color with several flecks of deep blue. The reverse is just the opposite with rich cobalt-blue over most of that side and a faint undertone of rose. Nicely mirrored and very nearly superb quality.
Half Dollar PR 65. Well mirrored beneath the toning which is quite deep and multicolored on the obverse. The reverse, on the other hand, shows much brilliance underlying the light rose-golden patina on that side.
Dollar PR 65. An exceptional proof copy of this scarce and very challenging year. Both sides show significant portions of deep, multicolored toning with the center of the reverse revealing a window of brilliance. A couple of vertical slide marks limit the grade of this otherwise superb proof.
