Description

1875 Twenty Cent Piece, PR66
Superior Quality for Type Purposes

1875 20C PR66 NGC. BF-1, R.1. First year of issue for this short-lived and ill-advised denomination. Produced as an outlet for Comstock silver, twenty cent production consumed only a tiny fraction of the silver mandated by the Bland-Allison Act for silver dollars. Only 1,200 proofs were struck in 1875, and this is one of the finest preserved examples. Each side is brilliant and the mint frost on the devices makes one wonder why a Cameo designation was not given. Census: 21 in 66, 1 finer (6/22).
