Description

1877 Twenty Cent, Mirrored PR61
Umber and Blue Border Toning

1877 20C PR61 PCGS. BF-1, R.3. A proof-only issue from a net mintage of just 350 pieces, many of the original mintage of 510 proofs were apparently melted. The bright surfaces of this example display traces of purple toning in the protected areas and exhibit sharply struck design features, except for the usual softness on the eagle's right (facing) claw. The few hair-thin lines in the fields are not all that bad. All in all, a nice twenty cent piece that will fit comfortably into its challenging spot in a high-grade collection.
