Description

1877 Twenty Cent, PR63+ Cameo
Contrasted Proof Type Coin

1877 20C PR63+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. BF-1, R.3. Only 510 proof twenty cent pieces were struck in 1877, and no circulation strikes were made to supplement. Nonetheless, this proof-only issue has a fairly substantial survival rate, likely more than half of the mintage. What makes the present coin special is the Cameo designation. This proof issue is decidedly difficult to locate in Cameo grades, and it is nearly uncollectible for most enthusiasts in Deep Cameo grades. Moreover, this piece is Plus-graded -- one of only three Select Cameo proofs so-designated at PCGS -- and it is CAC endorsed. Both sides are sharp and well-contrasted. The obverse has light golden toning, while the reverse displays full brilliance. The only imperfections are some faint hairlines in the fields, which, of course, merely determine the numeric grade. Population: 23 in 63 (3 in 63+) Cameo, 47 finer; 0 in 63 Deep Cameo, 4 finer. CAC: 5 in 63, 19 finer (5/19).(Registry values: N2998)
