    1877 Twenty Cent Piece, PR64
    Proof-Only Issue
    Lowest-Mintage in the Series

1877 20C PR64 NGC. CAC. BF-1, R.3. The denomination was discontinued for circulation, and all 1877 twenty cent pieces were struck in proof format. A mere 510 pieces were produced. This Choice survivor displays vibrant, steel-blue accents at the borders, yielding to pale-russet and golden hues across glassy, reflective fields. The central motifs are mostly frost-white, and contrast boldly against the mirrored fields. A few tiny obverse marks and hair-thin abrasions are seen with a loupe, yet this CAC-endorsed near-Gem proof has plentiful eye appeal. Census: 48 in 64, 47 finer. CAC: 12 in 64, 14 finer (3/19).

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
