1864 Two Cent Piece, PR66 Brown
Large Motto, Low-Mintage Proof Date
1864 2C Large Motto PR66 Brown NGC. Lovely aquamarine and
apple-green toning illuminates this prominently mirrored and well
struck Premium Gem. The two cent piece was introduced to help
alleviate the shortage of small change in commerce. The lowest
denomination of fractional currency was three cents, and
copper-nickel cents were hoarded. The 1864 is common as a business
issue, but proofs are far rarer, due to a Guide Book mintage
of only 100+ pieces.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 274T, PCGS# 3621, GSID# 2707)
