Description

Low-Mintage 1864 2C in PR 65 Red

1864 PR 65 Red NGC. A superb example of this first year issue and a very elusive proof date. The fields are unfathomably deep mirrors and the devices are frosted creating a nice cameo effect, a rarity for a two-cent piece. Rich mint-red color glows on each side, and only a couple of minuscule carbon flecks on the obverse limit the grade. Population: 4 in PR 65, 1 finer (4/95).
