Description

1866 Two Cent, PR65 Red Cameo
Flashy and Contrasted

1866 2C PR65 Red Cameo PCGS. This Gem features woodgrain toning over copper-gold surfaces that have a surprising degree of flash in the fields and contrast. A couple of microscopic contact marks are apparent under a glass. Minor proof coin mintages went unrecorded until 1873, but it is estimated that 725 proof two cent pieces were struck in 1866. Specimens are accessible in most grades and across color designations, but Cameo examples will give even well-heeled specialists a run for their money. PCGS reports nine Red Cameo submissions between PR64 and PR66, and no Red Deep Cameo proofs. Population: 3 in 65 Red Cameo, 4 finer (3/16).(Registry values: P2)
