Description

Impressive and Pleasing 1866 Gem Red Cameo Proof Two Cent Piece

1866 2C PR65 Red Cameo PCGS. From a proof mintage of 725 pieces, with few of the survivors from that mintage of a grade that equals the coin presented here. The lightly frosted motifs and deeply mirrored fields form a pleasing cameo contrast. Examination under low magnification reveals some faint speckling, but it is far from unpleasant and even the fussiest of collectors would be hard pressed to locate an example of this date without a few specks. One of the very finest graded of this date, with none seen by NGC in the Red Cameo category, and only a single specimen graded as such by PCGS with two more seen finer.(#83632) (Registry values: P2)
