Description

Impeccable 1869 Two Cent, PR66 Red

1869 2C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. If this piece does not make a few new collectors want to take up the series, they are hopeless reprobates. This coin is an absolutely fully Red specimen, completely unaffected by the many decades since its creation -- and yet completely original. Copper-orange of the most delightful hue cedes to deeper sunset-orange only at the top obverse rim. Even under a loupe, only the tiniest, most trivial flecks appear in out-of-the-way places. This piece even appears to be an early strike, given that it shows clearly the Breen Proof Encyclopedia diagnostic: "Two striae cross in field above WE; these fade." A fully struck and marvelous example. Population: 11 in 66 Red, 0 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N2998)
