Elusive Red Gem Proof 1870 Two Cent
1870 2C PR65 Red PCGS. A canary-gold beauty whose reflective fields lack contact marks. The strike is exacting, and any carbon is limited to the lower left obverse periphery. Much of the mintage of 1,000 proofs was eventually melted as unsold by the Mint. Certified in a green label holder. Population: 37 in 65 Red, 9 finer (4/09).From The Michael H.
