Description

1871 Two Cent Piece, PR65 Red
Deeply Mirrored, Even Red Color

1871 2C PR65 Red PCGS. A remarkable example, possessing only small flyspecks but glorious original color, with consistent honey-gold obverse and reverse. The light carbon in the obverse field looks like the trace of an old fingerprint. The reverse is pristine, and the coin is fully struck. The diagnostic die doubling on the motto is clear, but it should be noted this is not the FS-103 Doubled Die. All proof 1871 two cent pieces are die doubled, but this variant carries no premium. Population: 41 in 65 (1 in 65+) Red, 17 finer (7/16).(Registry values: N1793)
