1871 Two Cent, PR67 Red Cameo
The Finest Red Cameo at NGC
1871 2C PR67 Red Cameo NGC. NGC lists Cameo and Ultra Cameo
proof 1871 two cent pieces in both the Brown and Red color
categories. Nonetheless, the entire population of contrasted pieces
is small. Five Brown Cameos are reported, the finest being in PR66,
and there are also only five Red Cameos listed, of this the present
Superb Gem is the sole finest. A lone PR67 Red Ultra Cameo is finer
than this piece at NGC (1/20).This piece is die doubled on the obverse, as are all proof 1871 coins. Pumpkin-orange surfaces are deeply mirrored, contrasting with the sharply struck design elements. A few carbon flecks do not detract. Outstanding Registry Set inclusion.(Registry values: P1)
