Description

1873 Two Cent Piece, PR63 Brown
Closed 3 Variety

1873 2C Closed 3 PR63 Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Teich Family Collection. An original example from a proof-only mintage of 600 pieces, although some of the unsold originals may have been melted after April 1, 1873 when the new Coinage Act abolished the denomination. This appealing example is medium-brown with orange accents. The areas of orange are more noticeable on the reverse, where proof surfaces show obvious reflectivity. A bold strike is confirmed by strong details on the motto, horizontal shield lines, and wreath.
