Description

1873 Closed 3 Two Cent Piece, PR64 Brown
A Coin That Retains Much Original Red

1873 2C Closed 3 PR64 Brown PCGS. CAC. The two cent piece was one of several victims of the "Crime of '73." Meaning this was the final year of issue. Only 600 proofs were struck, plus another 500 or so restrikes at a later date (all of which were Open 3 coins). This piece presents an excellent opportunity for the value-minded collector. The insert reads "Brown" but the coin shows much original red luster remaining around the devices on each side. The remainder of the coin displays rich blue-brown patina and the underlying mirrors enhance the coloration. A terrific opportunity. Population: 36 in 64 Brown, 14 finer (8/10).(Registry values: N1793)
