Description
1873 Closed 3 Two Cent, PR65 Brown
Lovely Pale Emerald Fields
1873 2C Closed 3 PR65 Brown NGC. The fields are pale
emerald, contrasting against the true brown of the raised devices
on this lovely Gem proof, a last-year example of this ill-fated and
short-lived denomination. Only 600 proofs were reportedly struck,
with no circulation strikes. The Open 3 twos were later restrikes.
This piece is sharply struck, showing generous eye appeal and no
singular marks. Census: 14 in 65 Brown, 8 finer (7/13).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2753, PCGS# 3651, GSID# 2757)
