Description
Vividly Toned 1873 Closed 3 Two Cent Piece
1873 2C Closed 3 PR66 Brown PCGS. A proof-only issue, the Closed 3 pieces are considered original, while the Open 3 pieces are restrikes, apparently struck a few years later to satisfy collector demand for the date. This well struck premium Gem retains glimpses of bright orange color, but has largely toned in powder-blue and rose hues on the reverse, and deeper sea-green and plum colors on the obverse. A few pinpoint flecks near the E in CENTS deny technical perfection.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2753, PCGS# 3651, Greysheet# 2757)
