Scarce Closed 3 Variety

1873 2C Closed 3 PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Only proofs were struck in the final-year production of the short-lived two cent piece. Two varieties exist: the Open 3 variant, and the scarcer Closed 3 style. This pumpkin-orange example of the Closed 3 variety displays ample red and olive-brown accents over the reflective proof surfaces. An impressive Premium Gem, the fields and devices are fully brought up, unmarked, and attractive. None are certified finer by PCGS. Population: 27 in 66 Red and Brown, 0 finer (3/14).(Registry values: N2998)
