Description
Rare 1873 Open 3 Two Cent, PR58
1873 2C Open 3 PR58 NGC. The Breen Proof Encyclopedia lists this issue under its "Restrikes and Fantasy Pieces" chapter, commenting that one Open 3 is seen for every 9 or 10 of the Closed 3 pieces. Besides the obvious difference in the last date digit, a diagnostic horizontal die mark appears through the base of the first T in TRUST. This lightly circulated, glossy and lustrous olive-brown proof shows just a few minor marks consistent with a short spate in circulation. Nonetheless rare and desirable.(Registry values: N1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2754, PCGS# 3654, GSID# 2760)
