Description

1873 Open 3 Two Cent, PR63 Red
Final-Year, Proof-Only Issue

1873 2C Open 3 PR63 Red PCGS. The Open 3 1873 two cent piece replaced the Closed 3 variety as the original three looked too much like an eight. The 1873 is a proof-only issue of just 600 pieces, and is the final issue of the denomination. This PR63 Red displays mint-red fields that flash iridescent tones of lavender and sea-blue under light. Sharply detailed design elements display hints of caramel-gold, and a few small spots limit the grade. Housed in a PCGS generation 3.1 green label holder.(Registry values: N2998)
