1873 Two Cent, PR65 Red and Brown
Open 3 Date Logotype

1873 2C Open 3 PR65 Red and Brown NGC. A proof-only issue, and one of few proof denominations known from an Open 3 logotype. Both sides exhibit lightly mirrored fields that frame the sharply detailed design elements. The orange mint surfaces have deepened just enough to prevent a Red designation. The obverse is virtually flawless, while the reverse has a small group of spots below AT in STATES. Census: 23 in 65 Red and Brown, 12 finer (3/20).(Registry values: N2998)
