1873 Two Cent, PR65 Red and Brown
Later Open 3 Variant

1873 2C Open 3 PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. It is believed that the Open 3 two cent proofs of 1873 are in actuality restrikes coined a few years later to supply collector demand for this final-year issue, as the date logotype is that which was used during that time period. This Gem example displays fully struck motifs and moderately reflective fields. Largely orange-brown overall, though vivid cherry-red overtones appear when the fields catch a glint of light.
