Description

NGC 1873 Open 3 PR 65 Red and Brown. Immediately recognizable as an Open 3 by the weak lower horizontal shield lines, a diagnostic of all Open 3s if one is in doubt about the configuration of the 3. The obverse is bright and very nearly full red, but the reverse presents a marked contrast with that side being almost completely brown. A very rare issue and much scarcer than the Closed 3 strikings. Population: 12 in 65, 1 finer.
