Description

1873 Open 3 PR 65 Red and Brown PCGS. While 500 Open 3 proofs were allegedly struck, this issue is much scarcer than its Closed 3 counterpart which has only a slightly higher mintage. Immediately recognizable by the weak horizontal shield lines that are diagnostic of all Open 3 coins (if one is in doubt about the configuration of the 3). While mostly brown there is considerable underlying red and olive-green patina over each side. A full gem example of this very scarce issue.
