Description

1873 Open 3 PR 64 Red and Brown PCGS. Immediately recognizable as an Open 3 by the weak lower horizontal shield lines, a diagnostic of all Open 3s (if one is in doubt about the configuration of the 3). The reverse is bright and very nearly full red, but the obverse presents a marked contrast with that side being a mellow tan color. A very rare issue and much scarcer than the Closed 3 strikings.
