Description

1873 Open 3 PR 66 Red and Brown NGC. While 500 Open 3 proofs were allegedly struck, this issue is much scarcer than its Closed 3 counterpart which has only a slightly higher mintage. Immediately recognizable by the weak horizontal shield lines that are diagnostic of all Open 3 coins (if one is in doubt about the configuration of the 3). While moderately toned, there is considerable underlying crimson, golden, and olive-green patina over each side. A superb gem example of this very scarce issue.
