Rare Gem, Full Red 1873 Open 3 Two-Cent Proof
1873 Open 3 PR 65 Red NGC. Immediately recognizable as an Open 3 by the weak lower horizontal shield lines, a diagnostic of all Open 3s if one is in doubt about the configuration of the 3. Both sides are moderately reflective and exhibit pale reddish-golden color. A scarce restrike issue, one of an estimated 500 pieces produced, and far more difficult than the Closed 3 strikings. Pieces retaining their full red color are of particular rarity, with this piece among the finer known examples.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2754, PCGS# 3656, GSID# 2762)
