    Description

    1936 Walking Liberty Half, PR67
    Iridescently Toned, Only One Finer

1936 50C PR67 PCGS. CAC. The 1936 Walking Liberty half dollar was the first proof issue of the "modern era," struck in the tiny amount of 3,901 pieces during a period in which collectors could order any proof denomination severally or individually. Thus it is that all five proof denominations made during the year have slightly differing mintages -- but all minuscule. The present Superb Gem is a piece that is unlikely soon to be bettered at PCGS, as that service has certified only a single example in the PR68 grade. Generous luster prevails underneath a moderate layer of greenish-gold patina with amber and russet accents more prominent at the rims. The strike is every bit as sharp as would be expected, and the eye appeal is top-notch. Population: 64 in 67 (8 in 67+), 1 finer. CAC: 28 in 67, 0 finer (8/20).

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
