Description
Low Mintage 1836 Reeded Edge Half, XF40
1836 50C Reeded Edge XF40 ANACS. The 1836 Reeded Edge variety is historic for its first use of the new steam press on the half dollar denomination. The very low published mintage of 1,200 pieces has long inspired collectors to hoard the issue, although circulated examples appear on the market fairly regularly. The present coin has pleasing sharpness and rich golden-brown, mauve, and gunmetal-blue toning. A strong loupe reveals faint hairlines.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 6175, GSID# 6215)
