Uniform 1836 Reeded Edge Half Dollar, XF
The First U.S. Steam Coinage
1836 50C Reeded Edge XF40 PCGS. Matthew Boulton and James
Watt, of Birmingham's Soho Mint, had been using steam power for
four decades by the time the U.S. Mint got its first steam-powered
presses to strike the 1836 Reeded Edge halves. They were the first
U.S. coins to be struck with steam power, but medalets were
made before to mark the occasion. This XF example has merely light,
even wear with uniform gray-gold coloration.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 6175, GSID# 6215)
