Description

Colorful MS65 ★ 1837 Bust Half

1837 50C MS65 ★ NGC. Rich aquamarine and golden-brown dominate both sides, although the margins offer lighter olive-green toning. A moderately prooflike Gem that is well struck save for minor softness on the upper stars, the claws, and the reverse exergue legend. Liberty's profile is strike doubled along the chin and neck. Marks are impressively few and far between. The 1837 has vital importance as a type coin, since the 50 CENTS reverse was only struck for two years, and the 1836 is very scarce in all grades. Census: 5 in 65 ★ , 1 finer with a Star designation (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
