Description

1839-O Half Dollar, GR-1, AU50
Popular New Orleans Issue
Middle Die State

1839-O 50C GR-1, R.1, AU50 PCGS. Light die cracks are seen through the left-hand stars and a short, faint die crack above the I in LIBERTY winds its way into the cap folds. The reverse is free of the heavy die cracks through the legends as seen on the many late die state examples of this New Orleans issue. Dappled iridescent colors visit the lower obverse and date area, ceding to pearlescent silver-gray toning over much of the coin that deepens at the margins. Faint mint luster glimmers in isolated areas. PCGS Population (for the GR-1 variety): 3 in 50 (1 in 50+), 11 finer (12/25).
