Description

1837 GR-8 Half Dollar, MS63
Capped Bust, Reeded Edge

1837 50C GR-8, R.4, MS63 PCGS. CAC. A large half dollar production in 1837 required multiple die pairs that are individually identified in Dick Graham's reference on the series. The author identifies 25 die pairs that range in rarity from R.1 to High R.5, with a single R.8 rarity, GR-26. Graham records eight Mint State examples of GR-8, and the present piece is the fourth finest of those coins. Both sides exhibit frosty medium gray surfaces with brilliant underlying luster and light gold toning.
