Description

1837 GR-8 Half Dollar, MS64
Condition Census Quality

1837 50C GR-8, R.4, MS64 PCGS. CAC. GR-8 is often attributed by the "spike" (as made) pointing up from the top of Liberty's cap. This lustrous powder-blue and plum-red near-Gem is one grade finer than the two MS63 PCGS examples that top the Spring 2021 Stephen J. Herrman census. Dick Graham mentions only finer coin, graded MS66. The present lot is well struck at the centers, while the peripheral stars show minor incompleteness. Minor contact is noted on Liberty's jaw and the upper reverse field.
