Description

Paul I gold 5 Roubles 1799 CM-AИ AU Details (Obverse Damage) NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C104.1, Bit-4 (R), Fr-144. АИ Mint Initials - Alexey Ivanov. A limited run of gold 5 Roubles under Paul's relatively brief reign makes each issue highly desirable. Heritage has previously offered both mint initial varieties of the 1798 issue and an 1800 dated piece, but this will be our first opportunity to present a 1799 representative to the public. Though the surfaces on the obverse have been tampered with, note the somewhat pebbled appearance of the gold, there is also a lot to like about this coin; most notably there is plenty of residual luster present and the reverse is of high quality. Surely a welcome selection for those bold collectors assembling a date run of this exciting type.
