Admirable 5 Rouble Specimen in Mint State

Catherine II gold 5 Roubles 1764-CПБ MS61 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, KM-C78.2a, Bitkin-55 (R), Fr-130a. The initial design type for Catherine the Great's 5 Rouble series, featuring her first portrait type and a scarf around her neck. Though not the most scarce of dates from this series, it is a special occasion to encounter an example certified in Mint State. The frost caressing the devices is both beautiful and effervescent in nature, that along with the slight reflectivity emerging from the expanses gives this specimen a brilliance that is rarely available for the type. Occupying the second finest grade point yet awarded to this date by NGC.
