Description

Exceedingly Rare Mint State Dassier Rouble

Elizabeth Dassier Rouble 1757 CПБ-ЯI, St. Petersburg mint, Bitkin-282 (R1), Diakov-435, Petrov (25 Rub), MS64 NGC. Ex: Willy Fuchs Collection.  Obv. Crowned bust of Elizabeth right. Rev. Double-headed Imperial eagle with scepter and orb in claws, and date above. One of the truly classic rarities in all Russian numismatics, this stunning Dassier designed portrait Rouble is exceedingly rare in Mint State and the piece offered here is definitely one of the finer examples known to exist. This piece has full mint brilliance with a hint of argent-gray patina. The strike is a bit soft in spots, but the surfaces are free of all but minor post-striking imperfections. We have seen no other Mint State pieces offered since this fabulous coin was sold by Sotheby's, in London, in 1996. We can trace only two of these incredible pieces in Mint State, and none finer than this near-Gem example. A rare opportunity to acquire what would be the centerpiece for most advanced collections of Russian coins.
